Get a rough monthly insurance estimate for any new vehicle in South Africa. Adjust for your age, province, and overnight parking situation. Estimates assume comprehensive cover and are indicative only — actual premiums depend on your full risk profile and insurer.
How SA insurance premiums are calculated
Vehicle value — The base premium is typically 3.8–7.5% of the vehicle's retail price per year, depending on value bracket. Higher-value vehicles attract a lower percentage but a larger absolute premium.
Driver age — Drivers under 26 pay significantly more due to statistical risk. Premiums stabilise in the 36–50 bracket and rise slightly again after 65.
Province — Gauteng commands the highest premiums due to elevated theft and accident rates. Northern Cape is typically the lowest.
Overnight parking — A locked garage can reduce your premium by up to 12% versus street parking, which adds a significant loading.
Claims history — Not factored into this estimator. A clean record can materially reduce your actual premium.
